Angler’s Alibi is situated on the Alagnak River, one of Alaska’s best Alaska salmon fly fishing rivers in the entire state. We are fortunate to experience all 5 species of Pacific salmon on this river, and most notably are the king salmon, silver salmon, and chum salmon runs. These 3 salmon species account for most of out catch rates throughout the summer. We also have a phenomenal sockeye salmon run on the Alagnak River, with this years estimate to be near 2 million! The pink salmon runs are something to behold! The numbers are truly mind blowing with unbelievable action on sub surface and top-water fly patterns for weeks! The Alagnak River is noted for these prolific salmon runs fresh out of Bristol Bay every summer, and Angler’s Alibi is situated right on the tidewater section of the river so that we can experience world class Alaska salmon fishing right at our lodge daily on the tides.
Alaska salmon fly fishing is done on the Alagnak very easily from the firm sand bottoms of the many sand bars that line the river. This makes for wonderful opportunities to experience Alaska fly fishing in the comfort of a very safe environment for wading. This Alaska fly fishing scenario is not common to many rivers in Alaska where the salmon fishing is done over slippery bottoms of rocks. We are fortunate to have this feature on the Alagnak River, and take full advantage of it while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Alaska where there are no roads!
In short, to sum up the Alaska salmon fly fishing on the Alagnak River, there truly are not many places like it on earth. Our customers experience world class salmon fishing on the fly with a minimal boat ride for their efforts. If I were to tell you that it was possible to land over 70 salmon on a fly in one day, you may think I am crazy, but it happens every year, and this is no lie. Our return rate of guests is at 80% to 90% for several good reasons, and unbelievable salmon fly fishing is one of them!
