2005 made it 5 years in a row with over 5 million Salmon up the Alagnak River, more than double any other river in Bristol Bay. The salmon fishing was spectacular and all these salmon eggs, fry, and carcasses feed the Rainbows Char and Grayling in the Alagnak and nearby fly-out streams, so they are absolutely thriving; there are more big Bows, Char and Grayling in the Alagnak and the fly-out streams than we have ever seen.

We took over 1800 photos this year but we missed many of the best shots when fishing was hottest and we were too busy to get the camera out. Here are 32 of them, a tiny snippet of the season. Each of our guests landed dozens of Salmon daily on the Alagnak and dozens of Rainbows, Char & Grayling on the Alagnak and our nearby fly-out streams. I will be glad to put you in touch with several guests from each week for their perspective of Angler's Alibi, our fishing and our fishing program.

Week 1

One guest 89 years young landed 6 Kings over 30 pounds one day, & another long time guest landed 24 Kings, (he lost 11) in one day. 22,000 Sockeyes are moving up the Alagnak each hour, so triples and quadruples were blasé. Bows and Grayling were also a highlight, but our greatest treat was spending time with these guys; most of them in their 80s, several of them WWII veterans and all with great stories to share!

Week 2

King fishing was fantastic and Sockeyes are going by nose to tail. The Chums were in too and Alagnak braids fishing for big Bows and Grayling was great. This was a fathers and sons week, fishing was super and as always, it is a great pleasure watching dad and the boys fish and B S together. Great fun for all!

Week 3

Kings, Chums and Sockeyes were everywhere, plus a great trip to Brooks Falls with bears galore. A family trip and the little guys caught em like crazy. This family really knows how to have a great time. I was amazed at how tough 9 and 10 year olds can be, they were at it everyday, we had great fun and caught tons of fish.

Week 4

Feisty chrome Chums, at will on flys and King fishing is still super. Rainbows, Grayling and Char; the Alagnak and our fly-out streams are as good as they get. It's always fun for us to watch smaller groups of folks get to know each other at Angler's Alibi, and it's a special treat for us when folks like these guys return to even better fishing than on past trips.

Week 5

Big chrome Kings are still coming in on each tide, Dry fly and streamer fishing for chrome Chums does not get any better and fly-outs continue to be super. We even had a few Silvers join the tens of thousands of Chums entering the Alagnak each day. The Bows, Grayling & Char seem to be getting bigger every day. Great fun and fishing was super.

Week 6

Unbelievable fishing for the hardest hitting chrome Chums I can remember and Silvers were in too. The Alagnak braids and the fly-outs were also spectacular, with lots of really big Bows and Char plus bear viewing at its best. What a group, (many returning for their 11th trip) as usual, at happy hour and dinner we laughed until our sides hurt. This was some of the best fly-fishing I have ever seen.

Week 7

Really big Chums, Silvers & even a few Pinks, (it was not a Pink year) plus fly-out and Alagnak fishing for big Bows, and Char doesn't get better than this. We include some fly-outs in the price this week and I don't think I have ever seen as many big Bows & Char caught by one group. If you like big fish on a fly rod this was the week. Great group, super fishing!

Week 8

Our last of the season. We include some fly-outs in the price this week also, and the fishing was almost an exact duplicate of week 7. A super year with great guests and the best staff we have ever had. 2006 is a Pink year and after a run of over 2 million in 2004, we expect a huge run. The 2006 Silver run should also be the largest of the 4 year cycle and Silvers averaged over 12 pounds in the parent year, so we are looking forward to great Silver, Chum & Pink Salmon fishing in August 2006.
