Anglers Alibi - A History of Excellence in Alaskan Fishing Trips
Karl Storath – Founder & Owner
Karl Storath started out guiding for No See Um Lodge in the 1970’s with owner Jack Holman, an Alaska fishing lodge history legend. Karl then founded the Angler’s Alibi fishing camp in the early 90’s and set a standard for excellence in the Alaskan fishing experience. It was his goal to catch more fish than any other lodge in Alaska plus provide the best possible hospitality and service to the guests. That approach to guest satisfaction, from sun-up to sun-down, put Angler’s Alibi on the map. Karl utilized his innate ability to entertain guests with his great story telling around the dinner table, as well as his great sense of humor and volumes of great Alaskan stories from the bush.
Karl owned a restaurant in upstate New York, and brought this experience to Angler's Alibi. His approach still influences the way we operate the dining room, prepare the meals, and supply the guests with exactly what they want to eat on a daily basis. Our meals are served...not done in a “cafeteria” style like a lot of lodges. This attention to detail in the dinners and breakfasts, as well as little things like bringing coffee or tea to your bedside as a wake up call, are all ideas that Karl initiated that are now part of the overall blueprint of how we operate today at Angler’s Alibi.
Karl was an innovator. With a desire to catch the most fish on the river, he developed some techniques that we use today to catch a little more fish than most on a daily basis, especially the king salmon.
It was this foundation that started Angler’s Alibi and keeping the approach has led to one of the highest return rates in the business. Thanks to Karl Storath, Angler’s Alibi continues to be one of the best, if not the best, deluxe tent lodge in Alaska. We are featured in the book “Rods and Wings”, and are considered to be part of the Alaska fishing lodge History. Read testimonials at our Trip Advisor Page.
