Angler’s Alibi, an Alagnak River fishing lodge, is getting ready for another great summer in 2014. We have added an additional week to take advantage of the fabulous silver salmon fishing that has been happening the past several seasons while we are leaving the river for with what was the end of our summer. This new week will take advantage of not only silver salmon fishing, but also the fabulous Alagnak River braids and what they have to offer in regards to numerous rainbow trout eagerly taking egg imitations during the salmon spawn.
The Alagnak River is known as one of the top five king salmon rivers in all of Alaska. There has been so much negative press written about the king salmon returns due largely in part to the Kenai River. We have been very fortunate to maintain a very healthy king return year after year. last summer was slower than average, due in part to one of the warmest summers on record. Despite all the warm weather, our guests at Angler’s Alibi were able to land several kings each and ever week of the season.
Our chum salmon run was nothing short of phenomenal with large totals of bright chum salmon being caught daily on the fly. This should be the norm again in 2014 on the Alagnak River with the addition of pink salmon as well! These salmon are one of my favorites as they eagerly take the topwater flies and are just great jumpers and fighters. Lastly, our sockeye salmon run promises to be another wonderful two weeks full of non stop action. These salmon are most noted for their high oil content and bright red flesh. They fight like a steelhead, and have the table fare of the highest quality amongst all Pacific salmon. We have never had an issue taking limits of sockeye salmon for our guests in the first two weeks of the season.
