Planning an Alaskan fishing trip can be exciting but can also be overwhelming because of all the lodge options available. I hope that I can help give you some ideas to consider and help you narrow down your choices – contact Anglers Alibi with any additional questions…we’re happy to help make sure you have the information to plan your trip.
Angler’s Alibi is considered to be an excellent Alaska salmon fly fishing lodge to travel to when you are targeting ‘salmon on the fly’. Why is that though? Location, location, location…Angler’s Alibi is located right in the center of the tidewater on the Alagnak River, which is part of the Bristol Bay Watershed. This region has the largest salmon runs in the world and the Alagnak River is one of the top 3 salmon rivers in this area of many rivers – so, guests of Angler’s Alibi Fishing Lodge are in the heart of great salmon fishing…all five species.
Angler’s Alibi is in a location to intercept fresh sea run Pacific Salmon the minute they enter fresh water on the very tide they ride in on. We are an Alaska salmon fly fishing lodge on the Alagnak River, right in the middle of the tidewater. What this means it that on every tide during the salmon fishing season, the current of the river slows down, and the level of the river rises as much as 4 feet. On the larger tides, the current actually reverses in front of camp. What does this mean to the fly angler looking to target Alaska salmon on the fly? Fresh chrome bright Alaska salmon right out your door for 7 straight weeks! We fish from camp no longer than a maximum boat ride of 10 minutes throughout the season to keep our guests on fresh salmon every day (note: we do offer fly-out fishing trips as an option)
In addition to great fishing being available through a quick boat ride from Angler’s Alibi Alaska Fishing Lodge, we also offer fly-out fishing trips to Katmai National Park and other streams in the Bristol Bay area. We do consider ourselves to be an Alaska fly out lodge since we offer this service, but we do not own our float planes, we charter with Branch River Air from King Salmon Alaska. The fly out fishing in this part of Alaska is legendary, and we fly to the best possible streams to capitalize on the best fly fishing Alaska has to offer every week we are open.
Angler’s Alibi is located in the Bristol Bay Watershed on the Alagnak River. This is one of the top spots in Alaskan for fishing for all species of salmon – and we take full advantage of the world’s largest salmon runs Bristol Bay has to offer. We specialize in catching king salmon, silver salmon, sockeye salmon, chum salmon, and pink salmon daily on the tides as we are located only 6 miles from the salt. The tides affect the current at camp, even reversing the flow on larger tides. What does this mean to Angler’s Alibi guests? Chrome bright salmon, full of fight every day of the season within a 10 minute boat ride from camp!
We contributed an article to My Alaskan Fishing Trip about fly fishing the Bristol Bay Watershed Also, check out our intro to fly fishing for all salmon species Have questions or interested in planning your Alaskan fishing trip? Contact Anglers Alibi and our team will help with all your questions. It’s important to know that all our guides are experienced fly casting instructors and licensed Coast Guard Captains. We are only open for 7 weeks a season when the lower tidewater section of the Alagnak River is teeming with fresh salmon – we look forward to helping you find them! “When is the best time to come to Angler’s Alibi?” is a great question that we obviously are asked quite often. The answer really depends on what you or your group of anglers is looking for. The salmon enter the Alagnak River almost to the hour every year as if set by a computer. This allows the fishing guides of Angler’s Alibi to know exactly when each species will be available to target.
Check Out: Updated Alaska Fishing Season Calendar This past season, Angler’s Alibi Remote Alaska Fishing Lodge is happy to note that guests had one of the top 3 king seasons since opened our doors in 1994!
Right from the first day of the season, the average king per boat tally was in double digits and the guides never looked back. The king salmon fishing only continued to get better throughout the month of July until finally slowing down the last week of July when we still were able to land 13 king salmon on the last day of the season with 2 rods targeting kings only after lunch! Everybody that takes a fishing trip to Alaska is a first timer once! So, we will often get a lot of questions about preparing for your trip to the wilderness. You may have a long list of things you think you need, but Angler’s Alibi provides all fly fishing gear to their guests (with the exception of waders and wading jackets as noted below). Below is a summary of fishing gear that we provide – Contact Us with any questions and check out our tips on packing for a remote Alaskan fishing trip.
Review from Tom H. Angler’s Alibi…Wow! This year will be my sixth trip and I’ve been looking forward to it since the last day of camp in 2011. When looking for prime Alaska trophy trout and salmon fishing, the Alagnak River should be at the top of your list. The river yields an abundant number of beautiful fish every summer. Giant Alaskan King Salmon are routinely caught weighing between 30-50 lbs. Of course it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a top of the line professional guide taking you right to the fish, and this is what you get when you fish with Angler’s Alibi On the Alagnak River.
