Angler’s Alibi Salmon Fly Fishing

​Angler’s Alibi is in a location to intercept fresh sea run Pacific Salmon the minute they enter fresh water on the very tide they ride in on.  We are an Alaska salmon fly fishing lodge on the Alagnak River, right in the middle of the tidewater. What this means it that on every tide during the salmon fishing season, the current of the river slows down, and the level of the river rises as much as 4 feet. On the larger tides, the current actually reverses in front of camp. We fish from camp no longer than a maximum boat ride of 10 minutes throughout the season to keep our guests on fresh salmon every day (note: we do offer fly-out fishing trips as an option)

The wading for Alaska salmon on the fly is very easy as the Alagnak River has a firm sandy bottom, and the fishing from sand bars in the lower river is unbelievable! The only exception to wade fishing on the fly is when we specifically target king salmon and silver salmon. The kings are fished mostly from the boat, as they lie in much deeper water, and the silver salmon are fished sometimes from the boat as they like to hold in deeper water as well.  Most of our fly fishing is done while wading and we can even target kings and silvers while wading if that is what the guest prefers.

​​John Perry grew up in Michigan on an island called Grosse Ile, in the mouth of the Detroit River and Lake Erie. It was here, surrounded by great fishing and waterfowl hunting that John developed a passion for the outdoors. John moved to Colorado to chase trout in the summers and ski patrol in the winters. John had the privilege to start guiding for Angler’s Alibi with his fly fishing mentor TR Rafferty the second year it was in business. He left a head guide job in Colorado to pursue bigger and better fish.
