The long awaited report from the EPA came out this week in reference to the largest open pit mine ever proposed in the history of man….right in the headwaters of Bristol Bay Alaska off the North shore of lake Illiamna. It was really no surprise that the EPA concluded that any open pit mine in this area could very well have devastating results on the last wild salmon runs in the world. It is really common sense. In the history of open pit mining, there has not been one mine built that has not polluted or severely altered their waterways.
I am happy to announce that Captain John Landry, a member of the guide team at Angler’s Alibi, just won $10,000 in the Ding Darling Tarpon Cup, which was comprised of 40 of the country’s best tarpon guides. He took first place in this one day tournament adding to the long list of his first place finishes. We are happy to have him on our staff as he keeps the guests of Angler’s Alibi happy day in and day out with bent rods all day long!
It is that time of year where every day is an important step in making everything come together for another great summer on the Alagnak River with Angler’s Alibi, a remote fly in fly fishing lodge located in the famous Bristol Bay watershed. The logistics that are required from figuring out several different food and beverage orders, to getting the shipping set on the barges, planes, and boats, is a bit overwhelming at times. But, if you want to have a wonderful season loaded with good memories, this is the critical time for a lodge to make sure we will be fully stocked with everything imaginable to have another great season on the Alagnak River.
Angler’s Alibi, a deluxe tent lodge specializing in remote Alaska Alagnak River fly fishing for not only Alaska salmon, but also Alaska trophy rainbow trout, is looking forward to the start of the 2012 summer season. With the higher water predicted, we are eagerly awaiting another strong king salmon run and an overall great summer for salmon fishing conditions in Bristol Bay.
