Salmon Fishing in Alaska

4/3/2012

Previous posts have talked about some of the considerations to make when planning your Alaskan fishing trip.  One idea that we mentioned you should consider is what fish species you want to target.  Salmon fishing in Alaska is a dream to most people – when it’s time to make that salmon focused trip a reality, anglers are faced with so many rivers and lodges that the decision process is overwhelming.

So, I wanted to focus on one guests experience salmon fishing with Anglers Alibi because it highlights why the waters our guests fish are so popular for salmon.
We at Angler’s Alibi are fortunate to experience the best salmon fishing in Alaska every summer as millions of salmon enter our river, the Alagnak River. Part of the reason our guests return every summer to keep our 80 to 90% return rate going is due to the fact that it is more like catching than fishing. A prime example of this amazing salmon fishing in Alaska is from a new guest that we had this past summer. He had heard from a friend of his that has been coming up to Angler’s Alibi about how good the fishing was for years, but never really realized how good it actually was until he brought a corporate group up for a week of salmon fishing in Alaska.

This week was an eye opening experience as his guests caught salmon on the fly at will daily, and also targeted silver salmon on the fly with great results. It was relaxing knowing that you could leave camp, go literally across the river to the other bank and land 7 silver salmon, and 5 chum salmon in 15 casts. THIS IS THE REALITY OF THE ALAGNAK RIVER with Angler’s Alibi.  There are only a few rivers in the world that this could be done on, and we feel that we offer the best salmon fishing Alaska has to offer with the combined catch rate and service we provide.

John Perry with a Rainbow Trout
John Perry grew up in Michigan on an island called Grosse Ile, in the mouth of the Detroit River and Lake Erie. It was here, surrounded by great fishing and waterfowl hunting that John developed a passion for the outdoors. John moved to Colorado to chase trout in the summers and ski patrol in the winters. John had the privilege to start guiding for Angler’s Alibi with his fly fishing mentor TR Rafferty the second year it was in business. He left a head guide job in Colorado to pursue bigger and better fish.
